Baby, it's NOT cold outside.

Remember the picture of Jeff and I decked out with all our clothes, and the heat cranked up to 78 degrees while we rode indoors?

Remember when we thought that was pretty good enough training for the desert heat?

With apologies to those who I may offend, there was an item in the Shield's Date Shake shop that perfectly sums up the second part of our 85 mile ride...

We saw:

New Terrain

Windmill Farms

Countless roadkill (Poor Bunny Foo Foo and pal Rodney Rattle Snake) Sorry - no photo ops...

San Andreas Fault

And fellow riders, as we learn to depend on each other.

Tony and Jeff, sharing a speed lunch, trying to beat the heat.
We lost - it was 110 by the end of our ride.

Tomorrow - the desert.

Little Notes:
Jim - It takes a million stops to leave L.A. - you're right. Thanks for the shake tip.
Bob - We passed many churches called Cross Roads...I saw this as a good omen as well.
EPTAM Gang - I sang Paradise by the Dashboard Light at the top of my lungs during a five mile climb.
Cannot tell you how that thrilled Jeff.

  1. We'll be following your blog with much interest. We went cross country with Tracy 2 years ago on a Co-Motion Speedster (upgrading from a Burley). It was a wonderful experience. Good luck!!
